Update from the Godmother and Other Cool Stuff

Dear readers,

This is Joan, Piper's beloved Godmother, with a quick message about SHIRTS. We have some extras in adult S, M, L, and XL sizes. If you would like to add one of these amazing shirts to your wardrobe, please leave your email on the comments section of this site and the Godmother will get to you with details. At this point shirts will cost $10, but all proceeds go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in support of the amazing new life my Goddaughter has received these past few days. And, as always, in honor of all of you and your amazing fights against this disease!

Got it? Good. (And don't worry, she's the wonderful, magic kind of Godmother who makes everything all better!)

In other news, who wants to see the first post-transplant pictures?! Coming to you live from the 7th floor transplant ward!

So there you have it...all the news that's fit to print! Piper is still recovering from what we'll just call a LOT of needle pricks today, so she's a little more out of it. They did reaccess the port, but it didn't help. Hopefully tomorrow will be smoother sailing in that territory, but in the meantime we're taking it in stride. On a positive note, Piper did a FULL LAP around the transplant floor on room air with minimal rest stops AND STAYED AT 96%! Um, woah.

Happy fathers day to everyone, and a very joyeous Sunday with yet more to be grateful for...as if it ever ends.

  2. So glad to hear of Piper's progress!

Initially, I felt a little, uh, weird wanting a shirt about someone I've never met. While I totally feel like I "know" Piper from reading her blog for awhile, she doesn't know me at all. But because Piper is totally awesome, I got over myself and would love to proudly wear one of her shirts :)

  9. Thanks Piper's Godmother!

    Piper, glad you're doing better, even if you were subjected to being a living, BREATHING human-pin-cushion for a spell. Keep up the great work! Can't wait to get the shirts. {{{hugs}}}

Happy Father's Day to Piper's phenomenal Dad! :)

  11. Hi Piper,
Sorry I haven't written. Been busy with doctor's appointments and went away for the weekend. I am so glad to hear you are doing well. Once you get up and walking more you will feel even better!

So was the experience what you expected? Are they controlling your pain well? Do they still think you will be home on Tuesday or Wednesday? Will you be doing Rehab? You live pretty close to your transplant clinic right?

Well, I just wanted to let you know that you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Lots of love from Maine,
    Stephanie

  13. I agree completely with Stephanie. I feel like I know Piper since I have been following this blog since almost the beginning. I have laughed, cried, been disappointed, and had the highest of hopes for her. When I found out she got her lungs I went running through my house yelling "She got lungs!" Even my very stoic Navy Pilot husband teared up at the news. And trust me, he has been to war many times and doesnt cry at much!
So I figure if we have all of that emotion for Piper surely I can proudly wear a shirt!

Please put me down for one size small! coreyle22@gmail.com

  15. I LOVE the pictures; Joan, thank you so much for posting them - Piper, you look BEAUTIFUL and happy :) I love how little Sammy is keeping the shirts warm, too, haha!

About the shirts - I had been exchanging emails with Piper JUST before she got the winning call; it was after the deadline she gave us to request shirts, but she hadn't actually placed the order yet and said she'd get me one, too. I'm just not sure if my name got on the "order/mail to" list. I didn't email my address back to her until June 11. Anyway, my email is: rhiannon33@gmail.com

    Thanks again Joan!

    xoxo, Rhiannon

  23. Woohoo! It's amazing the accomplishment you feel after taking those first laps around the hospital floor. And the progress a determined person can make each day is exponential! I still remember those vivid dreams (thank you, prednisone and other assorted tx drugs!) and was so unbelievably hot while my body was adjusting those first couple weeks after the surgery. My family had on coats and blankets, and I was down to my skivvies in the hospital gown and still sweating cojones. Now I have fond memories of those wonderful painkiller drugs and yes, even the struggles to sit upright using my strength, which was slow in coming.

I know I've said it before, but I'm so excited for you! I agree with what you said in another post, that I wish every person with CF who has had difficulty breathing might have the chance to breathe easy. :)

As someone else mentioned, I do feel as though I know you without really "knowing" you. I'm pumped to wear my t-shirt in support and triumph. Have a fabulous day tomorrow!

  36. Piper's Godmother here: First, please let me note that all the hyperboles and compliments about me in my beloved Piper's "Update from the Godmother" re the T-Shirts blog were Piper's, not mine! She typed the "Update," and all I did was dictate the basic info about the shirts. Piper and I have long been a mutual admiration society!! Next,if you want a shirt, I must get your e-mail address and full name and mailing address. So if you have not put your e-mail on your comments on P's blog, please do so, and I will contact you to get that information.
    Thanks,
Joan the Godmother at T-Shirt Central

  47. I am a Respiratory Therapist and I take care of CF patients everyday. We start management as early as day one, and I love my CF patients. We get really close. The one that sticks in my memory most is a lady who was diagnosed at 32. She already had 2 children by then.

I just found your blog today, but I am very happy that your transplant went well. I would love to have a shirt if you have an XL left. My e-mail address is amcardona@cox.net. Just let me know where to send the donation.

  52. I would love a tshirt if there are any available. I had my transplant on Sept. 5, 2010 and I am a CF patient.

I found another cool website with shirts of different types of transplants. One shirt had a mask on it and the caption read: Because you have germs (and I had a lung transplant) I thought this was great.

It will help with everytime I go to the store and have my mask on, people won't have to stare like I'm going to give them something. It is funny how adults won't ask you, but children will just walk right up to me and ask me why I have it on as their parents look horrified....
